Tell us a little about yourself…
My name is Rui Gaiola, I’m 30 years old, I have a lovely 3-year-old daughter and another son on the way! 🙂 I was born and raised in the interior of the country, among the mountains, rivers, huts and a lot of freedom. 10 years ago I moved to Lisbon to study and because I needed a big city nearby where I could find more professional opportunities, the city life, shows, concerts, but above all a lot of culture.
At the moment I live in a village a few minutes from Lisbon and it is there that I find the balance between the freedom of a village with hills and sheep, with the proximity of a big city like Lisbon where I can extract only what interests me, without having to take with the chaos, the traffic and the tourist boom that makes a walk through the downtown a great adventure.
Professionally I am a wedding photographer, which is the project of my heart where I dedicate most of the time, then I have my personal Instagram, where I publish the photographs of my trips and my relationship with nature. I consume a lot of music, mainly vinyl, I play in bands, I do not watch series, I watch movies and I love documentaries. I love travelling and being in the middle of nowhere, far from civilization, just living that moment and that space and to finish, I’m doing a photography book that I intend to release soon, in a year maximum.
Why did you become a photographer?
From an early age, I was connected to the arts and it was this way that I started my academic path. I did my all training in graphic design and six months after starting to work in a design studio, I realized that it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Spending the day in front of a computer, with no schedules and the constant pressure to create, was not at all what I was aiming for professionally.
I still went through the graphic arts and printing, which is an area that I love but also lasted a short time. In search of an area that fulfilled me, I found photography. Basically, it has been a few years to test and experience several areas to really find my great passion. At the end of a few years in this area, it is travel photography and the crazy travels that mark me the most and make me want more and more.
What do you like the most about Ideal & Co?
It may seem exaggerated, but I like everything, first, it’s Portuguese, the products are amazing, beautiful and carefully made, everything thought with detail and a lot of style. On the other hand, the more you explore and know everything behind the brand, from history to concept and how all products are created and imagined, the more you like and admire Ideal & Co. No less important, José is a super nice person and it has been a pleasure to collaborate with him and Ideal & Co. I apologize to Rute, but I do not know her yet! 🙂
